About Me

Caroline Bradbury (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist, performer, and writer. She graduated summa cum laude in 2020 from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Dance under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. There, she was privileged to perform and work with choreographers such as Bobbi Jene Smith, Sidra Bell, and Jesse Zaritt.  In summer 2018 Bradbury was a student of the American Dance Festival Footprints program in Durham, North Carolina where she trained under artists Saar Harari and Dafi Altabeb, studying improvisation and choreography.  There, she danced in the premiere of Dafi Altabeb’s Fight or Flight. In 2019, Bradbury expanded her studies in improvisation at Sidra Bell Dance New York’s Module, collaborating with the SBDNY company and performance artists Slowdanger to blend dance and live music.

After graduation, Bradbury formed detritus dance, an artistic collective focused on feminist story-telling through movement, collage, and writing alongside Co-Artistic Director Claire Lane.  They teach professional-level classes with Urbanity Dance Company and Midday Movement Series, and have taught community workshops in the greater Boston community including José Mateo Ballet Theater.  Their inaugural duet in the Ether was supported through the Somerville Arts Council ArtAssembled Artists-in-Residence Fellowship in 2022 and the New England Foundation for the Arts’ New England Dance Fund.  In 2023-2024, detritus choreographed Malefica, which explored the history of witches and the impact of the Salem Witch Trials on women in our current age.  This ensemble work was supported by Alive Dance Collective, Midday Movement Series Rough Drafts program, Salem Arts Fest, and Mass Cultural Council.

Currently, Bradbury is a Mount Auburn Cemetery Artist in Residence, where alongside detritus dance she is creating Conversations: Above and Beneath, a site-specific performance highlighting four historical women artists buried or connected to the cemetery grounds.  This work is supported by The Friends of Mount Auburn Cemetery and The Somerville Arts Council.

Bradbury is an MFA candidate in Visual and Literary Arts at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she is researching the intersections between collage and writing in her creative practice. She also collaborates with her life partner Evan Ringle, lead musician of the Somerville based group Watson Park in experimental Drone Sessions, where dancers, visual artists, and musicians join together in improvisatory art making. Outside of her creative practice, Caroline is passionate about community organization. She is a part of the Communications Team at Jean Appolon Expressions Dance Center where she works to bring the healing powers of Haitian Folkloric Dance to communities in Boston, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. Caroline is also lead Social Media Manager for the Somerville Arts Council. She currently resides and works in Cambridge.
